Abstract

The objective of this research is to study the effectiveness of intravaginal progesterone implant on toward the estrous response and the size of dominant follicle in Bali cattle through ultrasound observation. Twenty females Bali cattle were divided into two groups with each group consist of ten females Bali cattle with category: without looking at the estrous cycle (random), 5 years old, healthy, reproductive, non-pregnant or postpartum (at least once), with body condition score was 4 out of 5 scale score. There were two groups applied: Group A with treatment used intravaginal progesterone implant, and group B without treatment or with natural estrous. The intravaginal progesterone implant was applied for 7 days. The estrous cyclearises 2 days after releasing intravaginal progesterone implant (9,00±0,0 days). Real-time transrectal ultrasound observation, with 7,5 MHz transducers was carried out during estrous in Bali cattle 2 days after releasing intravaginal progesterone implant. The data were reported descriptively and analyzed using Independent Samples T-Test. The result showed that 100% of Bali cattle showing estrous symptoms. Followed by the dominant follicle size when estrous occurs (11,3±1,9 mm). It can be concluded that estrous response is related to the dominant follicle size in Bali cattle after the application of intravaginal progesterone implant.
