Abstract

Background: Tooth extraction is an action that we do everyday as a dentist. Yet not infrequently we find a complication of tooth extraction that we did like pain. Efforts can be made to minimize the occurence of complications after tooth extraction is performed suturing that can affect the wound healing process. Suturing techniques used in the Dental Hospital, Airlangga University is a simple interrupted technique. But there is also another suturing techniques that tend to have the result of better of wound closure. Purpose: Knowing whether there are diffrences wound healing in tooth extraction by figure of eight suture and simple interrupted suture. Methods: Consisting of 20 samples were divided into two groups, each consisting of 10 samples, with the first group performed figure of eight suturing technique and the second group performed with simple interrupted suturing technique after mandibular premolars extraction. Socket width measurement is measured using calipers at day 0, and on the 7th day measure the socket width and pain after suture are removed. Data of socket width measurement were analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test then analyzed by Independent T Test, while data of scoring pain were analyzed using Mann Whitney Test. Results: There are significant differences in the measurement of socket width, while the measurement of scoring pain is not found significant differences. Conclusion: The wound that using figure of eight suture techniques closed better than the simple interrupted technique.
