Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the prevalence and genus of protozoa infection in cats at Lumajang. 120 cats fecal sample are collected from two different places. Stray cats and owned cats from three areas in Lumajang. fecal samples were examined with direct smeer, sedimentation and floating method. The result showed that the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoa infection in cat at Lumajang amounted to 40% (48 positive samples from 120 samples). The result of chi square analysis obtained p < 0,01 indicated that there were significant differences between stray cat and from owned cat including ages, Cats were taken on the local market or stray cats had prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoa amounted to 56,7% while house of owned cats amounted to 23,3%. The protozoa identified were Isospora felis, Isospora rivolta, and Eimeria sp.
