Abstract

Cladosporium oxysporum is one of the endophytic fungi was isolated from Aglaia odorata. A total of 13 fractions of ethyl acetate (EtOAc) extract from endophytic fungi Cladosporium oxysporum were tested for their antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Escherichia coli ATCC 8739 and Candida albicans ATCC 10231 by the disc diffusion method. The result showed that at least 6 of 13 fractions which were tested, exhibit inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Escherichia coli ATCC 8739 and Candida albicans ATCC 10231. Among all the fractions, the 7th fraction exhibit the highest inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, and Candida albicans ATCC 10231 while the 10th fraction exhibit the highest zone against Escherichia coli ATCC 8739. This study shows that Cladosporium oxysporum from Aglaia odorata could be a good source of antimicrobial substances.
