Abstract

CAD is a condition in which fatty plaque deposits build up in the coronary arteries. These plaque deposits cause arteries to become narrow and blocked which restricts blood and oxygen to flow to the heart muscle. CAD is the leading cause of death. One of the main risk factors that increase the risk for CAD is hyperlipidemia. An increased LDL concentration or hyperlipidemia is a wellknown factor for development and progression of CAD. Therefore, lowering lipid concentration is an important thing to decrease the risk of CAD. Statins are the most potent LDL-lowering drugs available and generally are preferred in patients with elevated LDL beacuse they are more effective and better tolerated than other cholesterol-lowering agents. The aims of this study were to identify statin usages, to acquire the target lipid concentration and analyze statin related problems in CAD patients. This retrospective study took the data about CAD patients who was received statins and hospitalized during periode 1 January until 31 December 2009. This study obtained 128 patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The result of the study about statin usages is 98% of CAD patients used simvastatin and 2% used atorvastatin to decrease their lipid concentration. Statin related problems is side effects which is occured. The side effects were myopathy (3.9%) and reduction of liver function (7,0%).
