Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the characteristic and release of diclofenac sodium from Carbomer 940 gel base with solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) formed which consist of diclofenac sodium, stearic acid 10%, Tween 80 8% and propylene glycol 15%. There were two formulas in this study. The first was Carbomer gel without SLN system and the second was Carbomer gel with SLN system. The Characteristic of formulas are shown by organoleptic, pH and spreadability. The result showed that SLN system didn’t have effect on consistency, color and odor, but it had effect on pH and spreadability. Data analyze showed that pH of formula I was 6,26 ± 0,08 and formula II was 6,47 ± 0,04. Spread diameter of zero load for formula I was 6,20 ± 0,26 and formula II was 6,90 ± 0,00. Spreadability of formula I was 0,0320 ± 0,0062 and formula II was 0,0440 ± 0,0035. Dissolution test was carried out with apparatus 5-paddle overdisk in phosphate buffer 7,4 ± 0,05, temperature 32oC, 100 rpm. The drug release (flux) for sodium gel without SLN system and with SLN system were 32,9433 ± 1,7256 μg/cm2/min1/2 and 29,1467 ± 1,2007 μg/cm2/min1/2.The result was analyzed by statistic programmed of using Independent sample t-Test with degree of confident 95% (α = 0,05). Research result revealed that diclofenac sodium release in SLN system from Carbomer 940 gel was lower than release of diclofenac sodium from formula without addition of SLN system.
