Abstract
Rutin had potencial as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. However, Rutin has limited behavior such as low bioavailability and instability in acidic extreme condition of gastrointestinal tract. Microparticle with eudragit S100 as matrix had been studied to overcome these problem. The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of eudragit S100 concentration on physical characteristics, swelling index, and entrapment efficiency of rutin-eudragit S100 microparticles. Microparticles were prepared with different ratio of rutin and eudragit S100 which were 1:50, 1:60, and 1:70. The result showed that microparticle rutin-eudragit S100 had spherical shape. FTIR spectrum, DTA thermogram, and XRD diffractogram showed the change of rutin crystallinity. Swelling test in HCl solution pH 1,2 result indicated microparticle rutin-eudragit S100 could protect rutin. The entrapment efficiency of microparticle enhanced as eudragit S100’s concentration increase. Microparticle rutin-eudragit S100 showed good results for increasing the stability of rutin in acidic extreme conditions.
