Abstract

Due to improper use, bacteria began to be resistant to antibacterial compunds, therefore finding a novel antibacterial is needed. Microorganisms especially sponges-associated bacteria are widely investigated because it can produce antibacterial metabolites including Bacillus tequilensis BSM-F isolated from Halichondria panicea sponge from the waters of Cabbiya village in Madura island. The production of antibacterial metabolites depends on the components and concentration of culture media such as carbon and nitrogen. Previous research has suggested that using ISP medium as a production medium for antibacterial activity is effective and produce various type of bacteria strains, so the aim of this research is to optimize the best ISP medium for producing antimicrobial compunds. The solid fermentation was used in the production of Bacillus tequilensis BSM-F antibacterial production then the bacteria were tested using Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Eschericia coli ATCC 25922 as a microbial test. The result shows that the best medium to exhibit an antibacterial compounds from Bacillus tequilensis BSM-F is in the ISP-4 medium with a 3% concentration.
