Abstract

Microparticles of ketoprofen could be developed to decrease gastric irritation and extend absorption. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of ketoprofen-chitosan ratio on physical characteristic, drug content and drug release of chitosan microparticles of ketoprofen. Microparticles with ketoprofen-chitosan ratio 3:15 (F1), 5:15 (F2), and 6:15 (F3) were prepared by ionic gelation method using tripolyphosphate as crosslinker, then dried by spray drying method. The result showed that as the ketoprofen amount increased, the encapsulation efficiency of microparticles increased. In simulated intestinal fluid (pH 6,8), the release rate ketoprofen in microparticles was slower than ketoprofen powder. Microparticle with the highest initial ketoprofen amount have the fastest release rate.
