Abstract

Infectious diseases are leading cause of death worldwide, particularly in developing countries, especially in Indonesia. Three causes of maternal death in Indonesia are caused by infection. The Ministry of Health's KPRA surveillance data, found in the sections of Surgery, Obstetrics, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in 2016 found that 50-80% of antibiotics were used inappropriately based on qualitative surveys using the Gyssens method. Therefore, research is needed to determine the pattern of antibiotic use and qualitative evaluation with the Gyssens method in obgyn patients. This method described the completeness of the data, indications, effectiveness of antibiotics, duration of antibiotics, correct dose, interval, route and timing of antibiotics. This study was a retrospective observational study in obgyn inpatients at Bhayangkara Hospital H.S Samsoeri Mertojoso Surabaya in November until December 2018. The results showed that 50 patients received antibiotics 35 patients got antibiotics prophylaxis and 50 patients got antibiotic empirical therapy. The pattern of using single prophylactic antibiotics amounts to 100% and the most commonly used prophylactic antibiotics in obgyn patients are cefotaxime (3x1g) IV then followed by ceftriaxone (2x1g) IV. At the use of single empirical therapy antibiotics amounted to 100% and antibiotics that were assorted in obgyn patients were Amoxicillin (3x500mg) PO. The results of the qualitative analysis using the Gyssens method showed that 34% in category VI, 4% in category IVD, 18% in category I and 44% in Category 0.
