Abstract

Elderly person wellbeing is one of the Government’s National Health Systems programs. Elderly are those 60 years old or more who have special conditions such as physiological changes which need more attention especially in health care. The aim of this research was to know the profile of drug used by the member of Posyandu Lansia Amanah Gubeng District Surabaya. Method used to collect the data in this research was interview. There were 62 choosen respondents from 152 members of Posyandu Lansia Amanah by purposive sampling method. Instruments used in this research were informed consent, questionnaire, answer sheet and the researcher as an interviewer. The instrument were checked for its validity and reliability before obtaining the data. Result showed, from 62 respondents, only 8 persons (12,9%) did not use the pharmaceutical products, 10 persons (16,13%) used one product, and 44 persons (70,97%) used two products or more. Product used by respondents were medicine, food suplement, and herbal medicine which were obtained with or without doctor prescription. Five products mostly used were nifedipin, allopurinol, glibenclamide, amlodipin, and metformin. There were 187 products used by respondents. There were 94 medicines and 10 food suplements obtained with doctor prescription, 43 medicines, 11 herbal medicines, and 9 food suplements obtained without doctor prescription, and 20 medicines obtained with doctor prescription were unidentifed. There were respondents who had 21 potential interactions which were identified among respondents using micromedex, there were 16 of them with moderate category and 5 with major category. There was no potential interaction in contraindicated and minor category. To conclude, the role of pharmacist in pharmaceutical service and medicine, food suplement, and herbal medicine monitoring to elderly people need to be improved in order to improve quality of life and elderly person wellbeing.
