Abstract

This paper presents the comparison of the concept of time of westerners and easterners. The westerners and the easterners have different concept of time. The westerners see the time as a flow of history which is linear while the easterners see it as a flow of history which is circular. Moreover, in the term of the subjectivity of the time, the westerners see the time as a being which exists only because of the existence of human being while the easterners see that the time has its own indepent existence. The difference influences the way they see how the time influences them. This paper limits its discussion only on the western and eastern concept of time faced by modern Javanese. They who live in modern life face this conflict.
