Abstract

The increase of industrial activity during recent years is greatly contributing to the increase of heavy meta ls in the aquatic system. Lead (Pb) is one of the harmful heavy metals in aquatic system. New method is needed to remove heavy metals in aquatic system. Cellulose is shown to adsorb lead in aquatic system. Lead can be detected by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (FAAS), that uses the wavelength-specific absorption of light that atoms is shown. The removal of lead ion (Pb2+) from aqueous solution using rain tree ( Samanea saman ) leaves powder as the adsorbent is reported in this paper. The purpose of this research was to study the ability of rain tree ( Samanea saman ) leaves powder on adsorption of lead ion (Pb2+) in optimum concentration adsorbent and mixing time. This method also has been validated in linearity, LOD-LOQ, absorbance precision, lead con centration on adsorbent, lead accuracy and precision on adsorbent. The results showed that the optimum condition was found at 1% (b/v) concentration adsorb ent and 30 minutes in mixing time. It concluded that rain tree ( Samanea saman ) leaves powder could be used as adsorbent and utilized for the treatment of lead in solution.
