Abstract

Hypertension is one of the cardiovascular diseases which has a high prevalence and caused up to 6.8% mortality in Indon esia. Captopril is used frequently for hypertension therapy and need approp riate information for its use. The aim of this research was to describe the profil e of drug information of Captopril prescription given by community pharmacie s in Surabaya. A simulated patient method was used to obtain the data. Ninety community pharmacies in Surabaya were selected randomly from 625 pharmacies in Surabaya. Designed instruments, namely prescription, scenario, protoco l, and checklist were used. The instruments were checked for its validity and relia bility before obtaining the data. The result shows, 83 (92,2%) community pharmacies p rovided the medicine. The information given by community pharmacy’s staff inc luding the frequency of administration was 48 (57,8%) community pharmacies, the number of medicine in once administration was 16 (19,3%), and the time of administration use was 13 (15,7%). The information which weren’t provided by the community pharmacies including time of administration use (1 hour before meal) 2,41% (2), side effect of the medicine 0%, and the duration of therapy 0%. To conclude, the information given regarding Captopril prescription was needed t o be improved. This information is crucial in order to achieve a better quality of life and expected therapy outcome, also reduce the adverse effects.
