Abstract

Erosive gastritis is a disease of gastric mu cosal erosion due to an impaired mucosal defense. Patients with erosive gastritis re quire proper care to achieve optimal outcome. The purpose of the present study was to identif y and analyze drug use in patients with erosive gastritis. Research was carried out prospectively from March to May 2011 at the Inpatient Wards of Dr. Soetom o Hospital of Surabaya. Data was analyzed descriptively. Of the 26 patients with erosive gastritis enrolled in this st udy, the major etiology were consumption of herbs (42.31%) and use of NS AIDs (30.77%). Clinical/laboratory data indicated that those patients experien ced melena (84.62%), anemia (80.77%), hematemesis (50.00%), nausea (34.62%), and abdominal pain (34.62%). Drugs used in the therapy of erosive gastritis were PPI cl ass, ARH2 class, sucralfate, and antacids. Patients received therapy in single form or in combination. The most widely used mono- therapy was from PPI classes, i.e omeprazole i.v. 1-2 dd 40 mg. While the most widely used combination therapy was a combination of omeprazole i.v. 2 dd 40 mg and sucralfate p.o. i.v. 3-4 dd 15-30 mL. Intraven ous route was the most frequently used initial route of therapy. The duration thera py of PPI classes is 3-21 days. Drug-related problems occurring in the study included an improper combination of omeprazole and ranitidine and potential interaction of omeprazo le with clopidogrel
