Abstract

This study aims at analyzing the issue of Indonesian national ideology in the fourth Indonesia presidential debate 2019. Critical discourse analysis which proposed by Van Dijk was utilized as the main theory and a qualitative was utilized as a method. The data was collected in the form of video and in the form of text taken from a website. The results show that the macrostructures chosen by Jokowi and Prabowo in the four segments vary. Jokowi tended to chose the theme togetherness, public services, building defense equipments and participating in world peace. Meantime, Prabowo preferred to use the theme protectionism, a strengthening of govenment and defense and a win-win internationl relationship. The four themes correspond to the superstructures and microstructures. In the microstructures,nineteen strategies were found but only five were used by both Jokowi and Prabowo in the four segments, namely, pronoun, lexicalization, background, form of sentence, detail and coherence. The positive-self presentation and negative-other presentation were used by Jokowi and Prabowo similarly and differently. As a whole, the similarities are on the use of positive-self presentation when showing their policies while the differences are on the negative-other presentation in which Jokowi tried to compare something but Prabowo intended to criticize Jokowi’s administration. In the analysis of the five principles of Pancasila, it was found that only four principles of Pancasila (not democracy led by the wisdom in a consensus or representatives) used by both Jokowi and Prabowo.
