Abstract

Acute glomerulonephritis (AGN) is a form of glomerulonephritis characterized by a sudden and often explosive onset of symptoms of glomerular injury, including hematuria, hypertension, edema, and varying degrees of renal insufficiency. Complications may occur in pediatric patient with AGN. It needs proper treatment and management that appropriate with patient’s condition. The aims of this study was to analyze the profile of drug use in acute glomerulonephritis. It was a retrospective study during period October 2011 to December 2012 in Department of Pediatric Inpatient Care Dr. Soetomo Teaching Hospital Surabaya. The results showed that from 35 pediatric patients with acute glomerulonephritis, majority in the age of 5-11 y.o. The common symptoms that occured were palpebra edema, hematuria and hypertension. Main therapy in AGN were antibiotics (penicillin and cephalosporin groups) and antihypertensive agents. Antibiotics therapy were ampicillin-sulbactam, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, ampicillin, amoxicillin, ceftriaxone, cloxacillin, erythromycin, cefixime and cotrimoxazole. Antihypertensive agents used were a class of ACE-I, ARB and CCB and diuretics. The use of antibiotics and antihypertensive agents used were single or combination treatment. Other drugs for comorbid as well as complication were oxygen therapy, analgesic-antipyretics, anticonvulsant, H2-blockers, anti-diarrhea, antihistamines, bronchodilators, vitamins and supplements.
