Abstract

This research aimed to analyze ojouman with the study of Brannon's hegemonic masculinity.Ojouman was first introduced by Ushikubo (2008) in her book entitled 『草食系男子「お嬢マン」が日本を変える』or “The Herbivorous Ladylike Men are Changing Japan”. In short,ojouman can be said as a man who has an attitude like a woman. Ojouman prefers things likedressing up, cooking and choosing things that look kawaii than things related to violence,ambition or power. The object examined in this research was a manga entitled "Sakura chanto Amane kun" published on the pixiv website since March 24, 2017 by AsazukiNorito.This research was a descriptive qualitative research using Brannon's hegemonic masculinitytheory for analysis. Data in the form of comic scenes and dialogs will be selected andsimplified. The results of this research indicated that the character and daily life of SakuraSouta, the main character identified as an ojouman is the opposite of the 4 elements ofmasculinity formulated by Brannon. Sakura Souta has a hobby of cooking, dressing up,loving sweets, shopping and wearing feminine clothes. In addition, he also has timid nature,not good at sports, and lack of confidence. Sakura Souta's attitude, character and passion arevery much at odds with the male role identity sub-scale and 4 elements of Brannon'shegemonic masculinity, which are no sissy stuff, the big wheel, the sturdy oak, and give 'emhell.
