Abstract
Japanese food is a foreign food that spread to all over of the world. There are many kindsof Japanese restaurants can be found in Indonesia since long time ago, including inSurabaya. Some Japanese restaurants that are very popular among Surabaya society areYoshinoya and MarugameUdon. Both Yoshinoya and MarugameUdon have manyconsumers of every backgrounds and age, including in young ages. There are severalconsumer reasons in choosing Japanese food in these two restaurants. This researchdiscusses the factors why young ages like Japanese food and also talks about howconsumer tendency in choosing Japanese food. The author uses qualitative method whosedata obtained through observation and interview process of 25 informants who are alsoconsumers of Japanese food in Surabaya. The results of this study indicate that theinformants chose Japanese food based on economic factors, religious factors, socioculturalfactors, and environmental factors. In addition, several things to consider whenbuying Japanese food are the taste, portion, price, and whether or not to halal the food.
