Abstract
This study aims to uncover the carnivalistic forms contained in the Bakat Menggonggong‟s short stories and find the postmodernism discourse contained therein. The main problem investigated by the author is the carnivalistic elements found in Bakat Menggonggong's short stories and discourse of postmodernism formed from these carnivalistic elements. This study uses a qualitative research method that is presented descriptively by describing data and describing the carnivalistic elements and postmodernism discourse contained in the text. This research utilizes the theory of Mikhail Bakhtin dialogism which focuses on the carnivalistic elements and forms contained in the collection of short stories and uses two stages of analysis, first, identifying the structure based on fourteen carnivalistic elements in the manniepane satire; secondly, the results of the identification are used to formulate the discourse of postmodernity in terms of carnivalistics using the concept of postmodernism Lyotard. The results of the study found that the carnivalistic form in Bakat Menggonggong's short story contained eight of the fourteen carnivalistic elements based on Mennipean Satire's characteristics including the use of symbols and images, multi-texts which included poetry, song lyrics pieces, short message quotes, and proverbs. Besides, there are eccentric behaviors, fantastic adventures, comics, philosophical dialogues, finally the journalistic and publicist elements. Through the bridge of politicism in the text, the researcher found several discourses about postmodernity, namely the death of great narratives, the relativity of truth, pluralism, discontinuity, and the life of modern society. The carnivalistic form as a postmodernism discourse in the text refers to the mutual respect for diversity or plurality. This work also criticizes the lifestyle of modern society which tends to be unproductive and capable. Besides, researchers also found a mix of narrator voices, based on overlapping perspectives. The presence of this lively perspective refers to polyphonic literary works, which are many voices. Researchers hope that this research can be used as a research reference for the analysis of other literary works with the same research topic on Mikhail Bakhtin dialogism and add insight into polyphonic literary works.
