Abstract

This study attempts to see how the main character, Mateo, develops his homosexual identity. The primary data of this study will be taken from a novel entitled They Both Die At The End (2017) by Adam Silvera which also becomes the main object for this research. The writer of this study will use qualitative and descriptive descriptive as its research method. This study used homosexual identity formation by Vivienne Cass in order to explain how the main character develops his identity. Homosexual identity formation is divided into six stages. Those six stages are identity confusion, identity comparison, identity tolerance, identity acceptance, identity pride, and identity synthesis. However, in the study, there are only five stages that can be found in the main character, Mateo‟s identity. Further, the study also gives factors that could influence the homosexual identity development of the main character. The result of the study reveals that Mateo develops his sexual identity as a homosexual and feel convinced of it. He also finds the love he has been waiting for all this time.
