Abstract

Background: Some preclinical data on kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) are viewed as potential remedies for controlling/ood consumption, body weight, lipid accumulation, and hyperglycemia. Evidences suggest that administering P. vulgaris derivatives for patients who experience acute and chronic diabetes can reduce body weight and lipid accumulation. The seeds of Phaseo/us vulgaris contain several bioacfive components of terpenoids, saponins, jlavonoids, etc. Purpose: To analyze the result a/kidney beans liquid on diabetes mice can reduce blood glucose level. Method: This experiment was conducted on 28 male Mus musculus in the age of four to six months, weighing between 20 to 30 grams. They were grouped into one control group and three experimental groups which consist of seven mice each. The mice were injected intra peritoneal with 100 mg/kg body weight 0/ streptosotozin in order to raise the blood glucose level. The kidney beans extract were prepared in concentrations C?f 25%, 12.5% and 6.25%. After a weekfrom the injection a/kidney bean extract, the mice's glucose blood level was measured Result: There is a reduced 0/ blood glucose level resulting from groups which were administrated kidney beans liquid with the concentration of 12.5% and 6.25%. Meanwhile, the 25% concentration group did not give any reduced on blood glucose level. Conclusion: The administration of kidney beans liquid gave the highest reduction blood glucose level with 6.25% concentration by 72.8%.
