Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the influence of pH on salicylamide partition coefficient using octanol/buffer within various range of pH (2.0; 3.0; 4.0; 5.0; 6.0; 7.0; 8.0; 9.0; and 10.0). The value of partition coefficient from this study were expected to add information about the characteristics of salicylamide physicochemical, so could be estimated its ability to penetrate biological membranes and its distribution in the body tissues, and could be used for the development of formulation of pharmaceutical preparations which satisfies the requirements of pharmaceutic. The value of the logarithm partition coefficient (P) of salicylamide at pH 2.0; 3.0; 4.0; 5.0; 6.0; 7.0; 8.0; 9.0; and 10.0 respectively was 1.06; 1.06; 1.05; 1.04; 1.04; 0.84; 0.75; -0.35; and -0.68. Results were statistically using one-way anova with degree of convidence 95% or (α) = 0.05. Research results revealed that increased pH from 2.0 up to 10.0 causing a decrease in the value of the logarithm partition coefficient (P) of salicylamide in octanol/buffer. Logarithm partition coefficient (P) not only influenced by pH, but also logarithm partition coefficient of gastrointestinal tract and skin. So, there is suggestion to have research about the influence of logarithm partition coefficient of gastrointestinal tract and skin on salicylamide coefficient partition, in order to have consideration data in formulation salicylamide.
