Abstract

Introduction: Gonorrhea (GO) is a sexually transmitted infection caused by bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. This disease is a global health problem because of its high morbidity and may be accompanied by coinfection. Over the last decade, have been reported strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae develop high levels of resistance thus becoming a significant problem in GO management. The aim of this study is to evaluate the characteristics, management and cure of gonorrhea patient. Methods: This study design was descriptive retrospective method was performed by evaluating medical records of new gonorrhea patients, including identity, history taking, examination, diagnosis, treatment, follow up and counselling with crosssectional approach. The selection of sample by total sampling methods taken from attendance registers in Sexually Transmitted Infection Division, Dermatology and Venerology Outpatient Clinic Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital from January 2016 to December 2018 with a total sample of 84 people. Results: The result of this study were obtained by the majority of gonorrhea patient were male 78 patients (92,9%), 17-25 years old 44 patients (52.4%), 57 patients (67.9%) of them were unmarried status, heterosexual was 76 patients (90.5%) and sexual partners with girlfriend 31 patients (34.4%). The most management of patients using dual therapy was 64 patients (76.2%) with a combination of cefixime 400 mg single dose and doxycycline 100 mg 2 times a day for 7 days. Only 34 patients (40.5%) attended the follow-up visits, and 94.1% of them recovered, and 5.9% presented with cystitis.
