Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze how traditional gender roles according to the community are often considered as a reference for the household model and media plot can be argued, where men must be more prepared than women, throughout Disney work entitled Incredibles 2 (2018) where stereotypical views of two different genders carry out their respective roles to the point where they have to swap roles with each other to achieve the same goal. In the film, many thought that Incredibles 2 was a form of propaganda of feminist representation, due to the exchange of roles wherein the previous film the male character led the story, but in this film, the main character is a female that takes the role as the main character and empowered. while the main male character gets the roles of more into the comedic role due to the character's inability to face the role that has been carried out by the female main character which also breaks the view of traditional gender roles where ‘men always be ready to anything that’s coming. This study will analyze the main characters in dealing with these role changes where the challenges of gender roles apply to these characters, especially the male characters, and how they face them. This research uses qualitative methods through narrative and non-narrative aspects. The results of this study indicate that Incredibles 2 provides a representation of their entertainment media that women are always more prepared than men, this was shown through their superhero careers where men and women are considered equal but in their married life, they are not, even so, the main male character must face the challenges of his masculinity, emotions, and ability to swap roles, while the female character gets instant empowerment from the film's storyline.
