Abstract

This study investigates teacher talk in English class learning video on Youtube. This study is aimed to analyse the feature of teacher talk that were used by English teacher in learning video in Youtube and the most used features that were used by the teacher. The data were collected from 9 videos on Youtube. There were 3 videos from elementary school, 3 videos from junior high school and 3 videos from senior high school. The data were analysed by using Self - Evaluation of Teacher Talk (SETT) proposed by Walsh (2006). The finding showed that the total number of teacher talk is 815 utterances. The finding also showed that all the teachers used different features of teacher talk. The features that used by teachers are scaffolding, direct repair, content feedback, extended wait time, referential questions, seeking clarification, confirmation checks, extended learner turn, teacher echo, teacher interruption, extended learner turn, turn completion, and display question. The most used features are “extended teacher turn” and “display question” counted as 20,1% followed by “teacher echo” as much as 14,9% also “referential question” 12,1%. “Turn completion” is the least used feature as much as 0,2% and “teacher interruption” as much as 0,4%.
