Abstract

Alan Moore's Watchmen (1986) is one of several graphic novel series from the collection of his graphic novels. The nuclear bomb has been an issue through this graphic novel because it still can be found in society and politics nowadays. A nuclear bomb, which has destructive force, has a more massive impact on creatures' lives and nature because of the extinction of Earth. Thus, the current study aims to examine the nuclear bomb as nature monstrous power issue found in Alan Moore's graphic novel entitled Watchmen (1986). Using Lawrence Buell's environmental criticism theory, the researcher aimed to analyze the environmental issue which is found in Watchmen (1986). However, in collecting necessary data, this study first examines the evidence through the picture, dialogues, the plot, and thoughts of the main character. Furthermore, these studies elaborates the relation between metahuman Watchmen and nuclear bomb, and the other characters' sense of unity and responses triggers the journey to save the world towards nuclear bombs through environmental criticism. Through this study, the result obtained from the study will affect and change the people's thinking to be more critics in dealing with an environmental issue, especially the nuclear bomb issue.
