Abstract
English is one of foreign languages taught in the school. This study attempts to find out the use of pictured story-books in reinforcing fifth grade students’ nouns of Sekolah Alam Insan Mulia Surabaya. This study uses the theory of teaching vocabulary by Marzano (2004) that covers six steps processes for teaching vocabulary such as explaining, restating, showing, discussing, refining, and applying in games. This study employs qualitative approach as a method of the study. In collecting the data, the writer uses the steps in action research by combining observation and interviewing the students. The writer found that using pictured story book can increase the students score. In pre-test, the average score are 61,34 and only 8 students passed the minimum mastery criteria (KKM). After the teaching learning process, the students’ scores in post test 89; and 21 students passed the minimum mastery criteria (KKM). The reasons why using pictured story book can increase the students’ score because using pictured story book is fun, can integrate team work, can improve the reading comprehension, pictured story book contains visuals, can give varieties in learning, This indicates that this kind of teaching can reinforce the use of nouns. The writer considers that this technique for learning nouns might be effective and should be used in Sekolah Alam Insan Mulia Surabaya and other elementary schools.
