Abstract
The novel Home and Exile by Chinua Achebe explains about the notion of Igbo people. The story describes the narrator’s experience in facing the colonial pressure in his homeland. The thesis aims to give the explanation and description on the notion of the stereotype, its impact on Igbo people, and also the struggle against such stereotype. The writer uses descriptive analysis in analyzing the story. The writer uses the theory of stereotyping as a signifying practices and the notion of domination and subordination to analyze the problems in the study. The results of the research show that the stereotyping process of the Igbo people has made negative images through the conventional practices for the Igbo people. It has made the Igbo people encourage themselves to struggle against the convention.
