Abstract

This study discuss as the main character rose from the novel Coraline by Neil Gaiman. It tells us about Coraline motivation that comes from her disappointments of new environment. The theory that is going to be used on analyzing the novel is intrinsic approach by M.H. Abrams, particularly the aspect of character and setting and conflict as part of the plot. The issue that is going to be analyzed is how motivation can leads Coraline to experience her imaginary world. Conflict itself can bring either positive or negative effect for the person that undergoes it depends on how that particular person’s ability to deal with it. The writer will use descriptive and qualitative method in conducting the analysis. As the result of the study, the writer finds that Coraline obtains positive effect after she resolve the conflict. As a conclusion, it will be expected that this study can give the reader knowledge on how conflict resolution can lead into character development.
