Abstract
The literary work about love story has already been an inspiration for the writer to analyze about the main female character, Heroines, in dramas Romeo and Juliet and Liangzhu. Using New Criticism. The writer would like to compare both Romeo and Juliet and Liangzhu dramas because both contain some similarities that give experience to the reader in conveying the important message within the story. The study begins with the analysis of Juliet’s and Yingtai’s characterization, intrinsic values, and respond to the conflict, then pointing out both the character’s similarities and differences in the struggle for love. The writer used close reading to make classification focusing on the character of both Juliet and Yingtai to find of the similarities and differences from text itself. The findings of this study is both of the heroines, Juliet and Yingtai, experience a forbidden love, got marriage arrangement by their parents, and bravely decided to suicide to struggle and get together with their lovers. Both dramas also contain different traits, perspectives about love, and the motivation to struggle for love that contribute to the character of the heroines, Juliet and Yingtai, in making decision to struggle for love in their own ways.
