Abstract

This thesis is about the violation of animal rights in We Bought a Zoo movie by Cameron Crowe. We Bought a Zoo is a movie about Benjamin Mee who wants to buy a new house inside the zoo. The reason why he wants to buy this house is because he wants to get profit from re-open the zoo. This movie indicates the animal rights issue and shows the anthropocentric point of view inside the zoo. This study aims to examine the animal rights depicted in the movie and also to raise the reader awareness about the rights of animal. The writer uses qualitative method to analyze the study and Narrative-Non Narrative aspects to breakdown the analysis. This study is using The Ecocriticism theory by Cheryll Glotfelty and The Rights of Animal by Tamara L. Rollef as the main theory. The result determines that there is a deviation of animal rights in this movie. The movie shows that human still the main point of the story. The representation of zoo in this movie is only the cover for the lack of attention to animal rights.At the end, animals still trapped in the enclosures, while human can find their own happiness.
