Abstract
The description of setting in a novel constitutes one way in which the author emphasizes significant details of the story. The setting of the story therefore may be important in that it explains a larger aspect in the work, such as how it underscores the theme and how it reveals the morals of the story. The writer is interested in discussing those two aspects since she finds it important and necessary in order to get a thorough appreciation on the internal aspect of the story. This thesis is an effort to appreciate a fairy tale entitled The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley. Here, not only the writer tries to reveal the theme and morals of the story, but more she examines the significant correlation between setting in this story with those two points. As one amongst the other elements in a fiction, setting in this story is presented prominently, which later constitutes the reason for proposing the above discussion. The writer believes that setting in The Water Babies has an important function to relate with the theme and morals of the story.
