Abstract

Background: Over the last 3 decades WHO classification had been used as a standard guideline for treating dengue infection, however recently there were published articles that questioned this classification for regarding it as too stem and not including other severe forms of illness (unusual manifestations), The new revised classification proposed by Dengue Control (DliNCO) study allowed early identification of patients with severe forms or unusual manifestations of dengue infection. Objectives: Validation of revised dengue classification criteria that divided into several levels of severity (dengue with I without warning sign and severe dengue) by using WHO classification (dengue fever I dengue hemorrhagic fever I dengue shock syndrome) as a comparison. Material and Methods: A prospective study of dengue infection patients in dr.Soetomo hospital pediatric ward was done from October 2008 to April 2009, by applying the revised dengue classIfication compared with WHO classification in early detection of severe dengue infections, with clinical interventions as a tool for grading the severity.
