Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of decreasing voltage and increasing time of exposure resin modified glass ionomer cements (RMGIC) to surface hardness and cytotoxicity. Experimental units were used resin modified glass ionomer cement (Fuji II LC). Disk-shaped samples were made from plastic ring with 5 mm in inner diameter and 2 mm in thick. The samples were irradiated with visible light curing unit at difference voltage (220 volt, 210 volt, 200 volt) and time of exposure (20 seconds, 40 seconds, 60 seconds). Surface hardness of this cement was measured with Micro vickers hardness tester. Cytotoxicity of this cement was used fibroblast cell line BHK-21 and evaluated by MTT assay. The result showed that the decreasing in input voltage may cause a decrease in surface hardness and an increase in cytotoxicity of the RMGIC. The exposure time longer may cause an increase in surface hardness and a decrease in cytotoxicity of the RMGIC.
