Abstract

Introduction: Thalasemia is a chronic hereditary disease in which the sufferer needs a blood transfusion. However, it leads to the long period of complication. Thalasemia problem involves biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects. The thalasemia sufferer has to have a good accustomed to possess a better quality of life. At the nursing children, family is the focus of treatment process. As they have to admit a good self care to run nursing function optimally. Methods: This study was exploratory research and applied observational descriptive approach. It was done at RSUD Jombang, using population total sampling technique. The total population was family with children affected tbalasemia. While subvariables were knowledge and family self care in healing the thalasemia sufferer. Result and Analysis: The study showed that the knowledge of the family was in low category. Meanwhile family self care was in Partly compensatory system. Discussion and conclusion: A strategic issue of family self care study was discussed in FGD. The result showed that knowledge and family education influenced the quality of self care. Moreover, health education method and media also influenced understanding and the acceptance of family on Thalasemia. Therefore, one of solution concepts was, writing a module to treat the children with thalasemia
