Abstract
Nathaniel Hawthorne in The House of Seven Gables has focuses on human's difficulty in fulfilling his needs as his main issue. One's heart and mind will be blinded by greed and will therefore perform wicked deeds only to get what one desire. The Puritan from whom the story takes its setting has a strong influence to build such quality of man. Not only the environment outside but also inside the house, the family, obviously becomes the main factors to set one's or the oflspring's perspective way of life. further more. one's sin is not only actually felt by the doer but also by the people around. Psychologically, they will feel ashamed or disturbed by the burden of moral responsibility of the sinner. The worst thing will happen in the future generations since a bad education will only result in conflicts between the members of the family and even in each individuars own consciousness.
