Abstract

Viewing at the children literary works that usually contain beautiful stories with happy endings, it is interesting to see the hidden message and philosophical values presented in a novel. The Wizard of Oz, a novel by Lyman Frank Baum written as classical work and used as compulsory reading material by American students. The unique characters, setting, and supporting intrinsic elements of the work had brought it to be measured as a masterpiece by the author. The simple way of telling story for a child is absolutely do not hinder the work to be sophisticated and relevant at all times. The adventure of Dorothy carried by a cyclone to new places and new friends had given her the chance to have the experience of togetherness and to act spontaneous reactions toward the hindrances on the way. Moral lesson of patience, hard work, faithfulness, and optimism was described in the story. Specific work that is directed for certain length of age, during childhood, gives certain effects for the readers. Unawareness in existence and need, which Man Jikely experience in life is the essence of the thesis. The process of change toward the character personality and the symbolism revealed is the core of the analysis. The choice of using personality theories in psychology as the extrinsic element of the work made the phases and incidents happened through out the story becomes logical and explainable.
