Abstract
This study attempts to analyze about the use of slang by Malang people. Slang is an informal word that usually used in informal settings. Slang can be used as an identity marker of some particular group, and also as a solidarity in their community. People use slang for many reasons, such as: They want to look fashionable and modem, because it is frank and informal, it is used to insult, it is used to criticize or poke fun at established institutions, to maintain secrecy, to express themselves vividly, to describe excellence, types of music, fashion trends, or sports. In this study, the writer would analyze about Malang slang called "boso walikan". The recent phenomenon is that the speaker of Malang slang getting are fewer and fewer. The main objective of this study is to find out the use of slang by Malang people which is analyzed by using Hymes theory.
