Abstract
Our Town is one of the most popular plays ever written. From the time of its first performance in 1938, it has continued to be regarded as one of the best presentations of life in America and of the richness of our theatre world. our Town is not offered as a picture Of life in New Hampshire village and it is not just about Emily and George. Its primary concern is not with the individual lives of the Gibbs family or the Webbs but with life itself, with all its vain strivings, its petty concerns, its joys and sorrows. It is an attempt to find a value above all price for the smallest events in our daily life. The characters in Our Town tells us what they know of life, its pain and hope; its simplicity and truth. This play shows that life was meaningful only when lives with full awareness of the value of the presents moment. This thesis analyzes Emily's Humanistic view towards life. Her view emerges after her experience reliving her life again. As the one who is able to go back from dead into alive, she sees and faces everything from a different perspective from others who don't have the experience as hers.
