Abstract

In the history of literature, Ford Madox Ford has crafted his name to be one of the most outstanding American writers. Through his major novel The Good Soldier, he reveals such an astonishing story of life in the early decade of the 19th century. By taking the life in Edwardian era, Ford successfully accomplished the complex relationships between two middle-aged couple, The American John Dowell and Florence Hurlbird and the English Edward Ashburnham and Lenora. Passion is the main stream of the story that leads the readers to a world of mystery through its deceitful language told by John Dowell, the main character that seemed passionless in the story.
