Abstract
The use of chromium in the leather tanning industry has a bad effect on health because it is carcinogenic. One of the target organs of chromium when entering the body
is the liver. Indications of heart disorders can be examined using SUOT and sun serum.
The purpose of the study was to analyze the effect of exposure to chromium in the air on
the levels of so tot and the sensitivity of tanning workers in the Magetan Leather Industry.
This research was a quantitative study with a cross sectional approach. The
population in this study were 11 chromium operators and 11 administrative workers. The
size of the study sample was calculated based on the formula of the sample size on the
two propositions for the cross sectional study. Data collection techniques using laboratory examinations, questionnaires, and observations. Laboratory tests to determine the levels of chromium in the air, chromium in the blood, levels of SGOT and sGPT. Filling out questionnaires is done to find out the characteristics of individuals.
The results showed that there was an effect of chromium in the air on SGPT levels
with a significance: of 0.033. The test results uf wurker <.:haracleristi<.:s shuwe" an increase in SGOT levels influenced by the use of PPE from chromium operators, while the gain in SGPT leve ls was influenced by the sex of administrative workers, and nutritional status of chromium operators.
The research conclusions that the use of chromium in the leather tanning industry
has a health effect that is an indication of liver dysfunction, so the role of leather tanning industry owners to provide adequate ventilation and personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, and boots, provides continuous inspection to workers it was very important to minimize the occurrence of occupational illnesses
