Abstract

Mount Bromo is one of active volcanoes and become prone to disaster.Government has attempted disaster precautionary measure and countermeasuresbut those programs do not run well due to differences of perception betweenCommunity and government. This research aims to find the relations betweenkinship and social factors, way of living and cultural values, economic andeducation level in Ngadisari village.This research applied cross sectional design. Population consisted of 105respondents aged 17-60 years old in Ngadisari village. Sample selection usedcluster random sampling. Independent variables were kinship and social factors,way of living and cultural values, economic and education level. Dependentvariable was the community perception of disaster condition. Than analyzed bySpearman's rank test with significant level p < 0,05.The result showed that the most dominant factors compared to three otherfactors were the culture value and way of living (t test=3,540, r-0,486, p=O,OOO).The kinship and social factor and economic level had a significant relationship butwas weak on community perception about disaster condition on Mount Bromo,however education factor didn't have any relationship with community perceptionabout disaster condition. The kinship and social factors, cultural value and way ofliving, and economic level gave a contribution towards the perception as much as25,2% and the rest was a contribution from others which weren't discussed in thisresearch.The conclusion is that kinship and social factors, way of living andcultural values, and economic level will influence the community perceptionabout disaster condition. It is expected that nurses in doing health education forcommunity need to approach family and always pay attention to way of living andcultural values in community, and community needs to be taught on theimportance of active role in the disaster precautionary and countermeasures inorder to succeed the government programs. The next researchers can analyzeother factors which influence the community perception such as technologyfactor, religion and philosophical factors, also political and legal factors.
