Abstract

The problem in mother during second stage oflabor is inadequate perineum, if the perineum is not elastic the laceration will occur. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of perinea! massage toward the perinea! laceration degree. Design used in this study was post test only non randomized control group design. The population were primigravida women on third trimester pregnancy. Total sample was recruited using purposive sampling consisting of 14 respondents and divided into a group of control and experiment. The sample was taken according to inclusion criteria. Data were collected with an observation paper. Data were than analyzed using Mann Whitney with significant level a< 0.05. The statistic result showed that there were differences of the decrease of perinea! laceration degree in experiment and control group (p=0.032). Experiment group showed that most of them had first laceration degree and decrease of the third perinea! laceration degree. The conclusion is that the perinea! massage has influence on laceration degree. Further research on perinea! massage should be carried out, so that it can be applied as an alternative therapy in nursing care. The research should involve larger sample and better measurement.
