Abstract

The body's immune system can be improved by giving immunostimulants. Antibody titer is one indicator to measure the level of immunity. This study aims to determine the immunostimulant effect contained in the ethanolic extract of basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum L.) against antibody titers of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by Sheep Red Blood Cells (SRBC) as antigens. 25 white rats were divided into 5 groups consisting of 2 control groups (CMC NA 1%) namely negative control, positive control, and three treatment groups with doses of 150 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kgBW, 600 mg/kgBW respectively. kgBB. The extract was administered for 21 days orally and on days 7 and 14 white mice were induced with 2% SDMD suspension intraperitoneally. Blood samples were taken on day 21 intracardially to obtain serum. Examination and determination of antibody titer values were determined by the hemagglutination (HA) method. The results showed that the administration of 150, 300, 600 mg/kgBW basil leaf extract was effective in increasing the humoral immune response of rats which was marked by an increase in antibody titer through the hemagglutination test and was significantly different from 1% Na CMC (P<0.05). The effective dose in this experiment was 150 mg/kgBW showing the highest antibody titer value but not significantly different with doses of 300 and 600 mg/kgBW.
