Abstract

East Java Province Nutrition Status Monitoring (PSG) data for 2017 shows that the prevalence of stunting in toddlers aged 0-59 months in East Java is 29.6% consisting of 19.8% short and 9.8% very short. The factors causing stunting studied were mother's age, mother's education, mother's occupation, age of toddler, gender of toddler, birth weight, birth length, infectious disease, history of exclusive breastfeeding, affordability of transportation to health facilities and mother's knowledge related to nutrition and stunted. The purpose of this study was to analyze the determinants of stunting in children aged 24-59 months in the Babat Health Center, Lamongan Regency. This study was an analytic observational study using a cross sectional design on 46 mothers who live in the working area of the Babat Lamongan Health Center. Samples were selected using the Simple Random Sampling method. Data collection on mother's knowledge used a questionnaire containing questions related to knowledge about toddler nutrition, toddler nutritional needs, stunting, and exclusive breastfeeding. Nutritional status data was obtained by measuring height with a microtoise device. Data analysis using the Chi Square Test. The results of the study showed that there was no relationship between maternal age (p=0, 761), mother's education (p=0,934), mother's occupation (p=0,152), age of toddler (p=0,381), gender of toddler (p=1,000), birth weight (p=0,064), birth length (p=0,064), infectious disease (p=0,292), history of exclusive breastfeeding (p=1,000), accessibility of health care transportation (p=0,126), and mother's level of knowledge (p= 0.318) with stunting. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that although all variables are not related to stunting, there are several factors that tend to experience stunting, birth weight and birth length. Mothers who have stunted children are expected to pay attention to their child's food intake. This is intended to catch up with growth delays.
