Abstract

Most of 75,66% injuries among elementary school children were nonfatal injuries. Most of them were self treatened. Wrong treatened can cause traumatic stress, depression, pain, and disability. Therefore health education about first aid should be given. The student’s knowledge about first aid at SDN Bendul Merisi 408 showed 41,6% students in lower category and 50% students in midle category. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of health education with SAVI learning method to knowledge, attitude and practice to perform first aid among children. SAVI stands for somatic auditory visual intellectual that combines the different kinds of learning styles. This study used Pra-Experimental one group pre-post test design. Populations were school students at IV and V grade of SDN Bendul Merisi 408. There were 24 samples taken by purposive sampling technique. The independent variable was health education about first aid using SAVI learning method. The dependent variable was knowledge, attitude and practice to perform first aid. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation checklist. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with level of significance α ≤ 0.05. The result showed that knowledge about first aid increasing significantly with p= 0,001. While attitude to perform first aid increase but not significantly with p= 0,317. And practice to perform first aid increase with mean 89,58. It can be concluded that SAVI learning method significantly increase knowledge and practice to perform first aid among students at SDN Bendul Merisi 408 Surabaya. SAVI learning method should be applied at elementary school to increase student’s knowledge and practice.
