Abstract
A problem in exclusive breastfeeding nearly the same experienced by every mother who are employed, where the employment is one of the factors that lowers desire and the intention to give mother breast-feed exclusively for a baby. The state of the same also experienced by working mother, who also work as health workers. This study was aimed to explain factors related to granting exsclusive breastfeeding of mother workers in Prof Dr W Z Johanes public hospital. This research used correlation design with a retrospective approach. The population was mothers breastfeed who are working and have infant with ages 6- 12 months. Total sample was 30 respondents based on inclusion criteria with purposive sampling technique. The dependent variable was granting exclusive breastfeeding of mother workers and the independent variables were lactating females’ knowledge, stress level, family support, and workplace support. A Spearman Rho statistic test is performed in order to determine relationship of dependent and independent variables. Significance is set at p < 0.05 and a positive Correlation Coefficient is set at r = +1. Results showed that mother’s breastfeed knowledge (p = 0,056) and stress level (p = 0,147), are not necessarily correlating with granting exclusive breastfeeding, while family support (p < 0,000) and workplace’s supportive environment (p= 0,001) are likely correlating with granting exclusive breastfeeding. Based on data analysis, it can concluded that knowledge and stress level of mother breastfeed did not correlation with exclusive breastfeeding but, family support and workplace’s supportive environment might be correlation with exclusive breastfeeding.
