Abstract

Late childhood is a period of school age with a primary developmental task is socialization. Children’s skills are an essential factor to start and have a positive social relationship with their society. Low social skills can lead to children’s behavior disorder. According to a study by Kazdin (in Carr, 2001) it suggests that more than 50% of children 4-5 years of age have shown external behavior disorder symptoms which can develop into permanent behavior disorder. However phenomena in fields was found that around 40 % of children are at low social skills. In this period, mother’s role is very important and has a strong influence to children’s social development. The purpose of the study to know the relationship between mothers’ parenting style and six years old children’s social skill in Jombang residency. The method that was used in this study was Observational Analytic with a cross sectional study design. This study was sited in ABA kindergarten in Jombang residency. The subject of the study was mothers who have a child who study at ABA kindergarten in Jombang residency and the child was six years old. The number of samples was 63 people. Sample was collected using simple random sampling technique. Data analysis was carried out through analysis regression linear double with 61; =0,05 and CI 95%.The research result showed that in general the higher the mother's parenting pattern the higher the social skills of children of six years old. By using variable of children of gender, number of children, economics’ family, education, structure family and mother’s work has shown that, indirectly, mothers education and mother’s work were positively related to children’s social skills trough mothers parenting ( 61;= 0,005, 61;=0,023) Conclusion: in general the higher the mother's parenting resulted in good social skills of children of six years old children. Indirectly mothers’ education and mother’s work were positively related to children’s social skill through mother’s parenting.
