Abstract

Indonesia has many big cities which have many tourism objects. Surabaya is the second biggest city in Indonesia. Surabaya has many tourism objects such as: Heritage building, complete Zoo in South East Asia, parks, museums, culinary, hotel, religious places, fun fairs, malls, and many more. To support the tourist destination, either International/local tourist, it might require information about those tourist objects. The Surabaya Department of Culture and Tourism follows up this requirement by providing Tourism Information Center in 2002. Surabaya Tourism Information Center (STIC) is the right place to get information about Surabaya Tourism. During the internship, the writer got a lot of knowledge and experiences, for example: she meet international visitors, answered the phone calls, and also knew about the street on Surabaya. Besides, the writer got benefits to improve her English communication skill because many visitors came from another country. The writer learned how to work in real life and could be a real officer in TIC. The writer also learned to cooperate with her friends during the internship. During the writer did her internship, there are several subjects which related in her internship such as Listening, she learn how to listen with different dialect. The writer also can practice the subjects in real life such as Cross Culture Understanding, English for Office Management, and Public speaking. At the second week of internship, the writer felt nervous when she had to serve foreign visitor. The writer was so glad could doing the internship in Surabaya Tourism Information Center as Information Staff. Because she got a lot experiences which was never gotten in another place. For juniors who want to do their internship in Surabaya Tourism Information Center, they have to have responsibility about time management, learn how to work in team and be discipline. Surabaya Tourism Information Center is recommended place to do internship because it provides many experiences which are useful for the future life if they want to work as a tour guide or an officer in Surabaya Tourism Information Centre.
